Traces – GUM Collective

By 13/11/2014December 14th, 2018News

November 3rd – 9th, 2014
Opening: Thursday 6th November 7pm
At The Library Project

Artists: Aaron Burns, Aaron Smyth, Alex de Roeck, Aimee Gallagher, Ciara O’Brien, Ciaran Gallen, Clare Marie Ryan, Eoin O’Reilly, Luke O’Meara, Melissa Ellis, Sadbh O’Brien, Sofia Mikhaylova and Stephen Lau.

The theme of the exhibition is “self”. Making reference to both the art historical construct of portraiture and it’s contemporary manifestation, “selfie” culture, and notions of self representation and adopted persona.

Each artist intends to explore and challenge this through the contrasting values of the internal and external, the seen and the unseen creating a collection of diverse works exploring themes as diverse as gender, ego, identity and virtual persona, responding to the contemporary ideal of self and existence.

This is a group exhibition from the Gum Collective, a collective of 13 Dublin based visual artists, who specialise in Fine Art Printmaking. As such the exhibition will be a wonderfully diverse collection of varying aesthetics and mediums which will contrast and complement each other.
