As a key cultural organisation, it develops and sustains infrastructure for photography and visual culture across Ireland, supporting artists, audiences, and the wider sector through exhibitions, professional development, publishing, and public engagement.

Role Description

The Audience Engagement and Communications Coordinator is a new full-time role offering the opportunity to join PhotoIreland at an exciting moment in its development. We are an ambitious organisation with a strong commitment to photography and visual culture in Ireland and internationally.

As part of our passionate and collaborative team, the Audience Engagement and Communications Coordinator will play an important role in shaping the future of the organisation within a dynamic, hands-on working environment. This role is suited to someone who has strong administrative competencies, is proactive, organised, and comfortable balancing a range of responsibilities, while contributing to projects and services valued by artists, students, researchers, and communities across Ireland and beyond.

The role combines core administrative responsibilities with leadership in communications and community engagement, ensuring that programmes are delivered efficiently while fostering meaningful connections with diverse audiences and communities. Working across departments, the post holder will lead on communications planning and implementation, ensuring clear, consistent, and accessible messaging that strengthens relationships with audiences, partners, and stakeholders, and supports the visibility and impact of PhotoIreland’s portfolio of projects, playing a key role in strengthening our position as a leading organisation.

The Candidate

The successful candidate will be an organised and proactive administrator with strong communication skills and a commitment to inclusive cultural participation. They will be confident in managing multiple priorities, coordinating projects, and working collaboratively with artists, partners, communities, and colleagues.

The post holder should have experience in communications, audience development, and community engagement, with the ability to plan and deliver campaigns across digital and traditional platforms. They should demonstrate strong organisational and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the capacity to represent PhotoIreland professionally in public-facing contexts.

The post holder will contribute to the organisation’s operational effectiveness and public profile with the objective of strengthening community relationships, increasing participation, and ensuring clear and consistent communication of PhotoIreland’s artistic, educational, and public programmes.

Terms of Employment

  • Contract: Full-time, 3-year fixed term
  • Salary: €35,000 per annum
  • Place of Work: International Centre for the Image
  • Days: 5 days per week. Any overtime provided as time-off-in-lieu.
  • Probation period: 6 months

Responsibilities

  • Champion inclusion and cultural diversity across all activities.
  • Provide day-to-day administrative and operational support, including filing, archiving, and responding to inquiries.
  • Support inclusive and accessible public engagement initiatives aligned with the organisation’s strategic goals.
  • Assist with audience development initiatives and help grow engagement locally, nationally, and internationally, both in-person and online, expanding and diversifying the organisation’s visitor base.
  • Assisting in identifying funding opportunities and supporting the Executive with grant applications, membership development, and partnership-building activities.
  • Support the planning, coordination, and delivery of exhibitions, events, talks, workshops, and public programmes.
  • Liaise with artists, collaborators, designers, media, funders and community partners.
  • Prepare and publish promotional, interpretive, and audience-facing materials for exhibitions and events.
  • Support the coordination of bookings, schedules, contracts, and event logistics.
  • Coordinate communications across websites, social media, newsletters, print, and other promotional platforms.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date information across digital and printed platforms as well as the organisation’s visual identity and communications standards.
  • Conduct audience research, surveys, and reporting to support communications and engagement strategies.
  • Represent the organisation at exhibitions, openings, networking events, and meetings where required.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, flexible, and positive working environment.
  • Undertake other related duties as reasonably required.

Mandatory Skills and Experience:

  • Previous, demonstrable experience of working within similar roles, (ideally in the arts and culture sector) including communications, working with artists, cultural organisations, and public engagement initiatives, delivering public programmes.
  • An ability to build and maintain strong and positive working relationships, including stakeholder engagement and relationship development.
  • Demonstrable track record of audience engagement, with an understanding of contemporary audience behaviour and access needs.
  • Experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating communication and marketing campaigns.
  • Creative and problem solving skills, with good judgement, with excellent strategy, planning, and decision making abilities.
  • Excellent project management skills, a proven ability in administration, time management, and ability to prioritise.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and writing), including copyrighting and proofing.
  • A proactive ‘can do’ approach, comfortable working independently and within a team.
  • Confident knowledge of Google Workspace is a must, as well as other software necessary to perform, such as Microsoft 365.
  • Strong attention to detail, commitment to accuracy and consistency.
  • Forward thinking, task-focused mindset with a desire to ensure projects are finalised to a high standard.
  • Clear understanding of the mission of the organisation.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with WordPress.
  • Experience with Google Analytics.
  • Experience with data analysis relating to audience development.
  • Basic experience in design and design software.
