Talk 1: Aoife Herrity will discuss the role of corporeal writing and embodied texts within their practice and how residencies have unearthed new avenues in their approach to creative work.

Aoife Herrity is a visual artist and writer based in Dublin. Their work often responds to the impacts of developmental and interpersonal trauma. Current interests look at sensory processing and dissociation. Their photographic series Sleeping Dogs Lie responded to traumatised states and explored implicit memory and the freeze response. By revisiting both family and personal histories, Herrity explored emotional discomfort through the creation of psychological landscapes.

In 2024 they participated in the Frieze New Writers programme at Glasgow International. In 2021 they were nominated by PhotoIreland for the Futures European Photography Platform and were a recipient of the Irish Arts Council Agility Award. Herrity’s work has been exhibited in Ireland, the UK and Europe and is held in collections by the ACNI and the OPW. Herrity holds an MFA in Photography from Ulster University and is an associate lecturer at IADT Dun Laoghaire.

Talk 2: Dr Audrey Whitty will examine the history of the National Library of Ireland and its collecting, current Strategic Plan and future vision.

Dr Audrey Whitty, a curator, art historian, and archaeologist, is the Director of the National Library of Ireland (since February 2023). She was previously the Deputy Director of the National Museum of Ireland (NMI) as well as Head of Collections and Learning at the NMI.

Talk 3: Ángel Luis González Fernández will propose to abandon certain stereotypes and misconceptions in order to embrace one’s own practice fully, and comment about some opportunities for artists.

Designer, artist, and curator Ángel Luis González Fernández is the director of PhotoIreland. Having graduated from a BA in Photography, he founded the organisation to support and promote photographers in Ireland. PhotoIreland has grown to become a resource organisation providing a range of events, exhibitions and developmental support throughout the year, and it is about to announce some exciting news regarding a significant step for the organisation.
