PARALLEL Update: Curatorship

By 08/01/2018February 24th, 2019News, Parallel Platform

Following our previous EU co-operation project Flaneur – New Urban Narratives in 2016, PhotoIreland Foundation (participating as PhotoIreland Festival) has been invited for the second time by Procur.arte to join their next ambitious project: PARALLEL – European Photo Based Platform.

To recap, in the first cycle of the programme, PhotoIreland Foundation has invited emerging artist Mark McGuinness to join the year-long project, representing Ireland. At the launch of PARALLEL in Lisbon, 23rd November 2017, Mark exhibited his work Dreaming of the Figure Eight as part of the event Showcase. During that week, Eamonn Doyle also exhibited his renowned project End. representing PhotoIreland Festival, as an example of both our programming and vision over the years.

The emerging artists are working closely with a tutor during the development of their new project. Mark McGuinness is working with Peggy Sue Amison. The next step for Mark is the Curatorship process, taking place in Kaunas, attended by all the emerging artists and emerging curators who were put forward by the other members of the platform. Here, he will present his new work in progress. The purpose of this process is to establish connections between the emerging curators and the emerging artists’ works. The curators will select the artist(s) with whom they will work together exhibiting the new project, to be shown in an the Exhibiting Member’s venue during the year. In September 2018, the culmination and fruit of all this work will be presented at the next Intersection, during Organ Vida International Photography Festival, in Zagreb.
