PhotoIreland announces the return of its book fair in 2023, first launched in 2011, presented now as the Tsundoku Art Book Fair, scheduled to take place 13-16 July at The Printworks, Dublin Castle during the PhotoIreland Festival.
The fair is now welcoming applications from contemporary artists, art publishers, art bookmakers, and art organisations that have been engaged with artists’ publishing in the last two years.
Tsundoku will feature a broad range of active publishers, artists and collectives, small presses, and institutions. The Fair will also present a full calendar of events, such as book launches, discussions, performances, workshops, exhibitions and special projects that highlight interdisciplinary artists’ publishing practices.
Exhibitors who are unable to travel to Dublin can still participate at the fair and their table will be represented and managed by the PhotoIreland team.
We are looking forward to reuniting once again around artists’ books in Dublin!
HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN TSUNDOKU
PhotoIreland welcomes all publishers in any language, whether established, independent or not, as much as artists, individuals, collectives, small presses, institutions, and those wanting to showcase and sell their self-published materials to participate in Tsundoku. All art publications are welcome, from artist books and photobooks, to critical texts around theory and practice, within and beyond the Visual Arts and Photography. Publisher’s most recent publication must have been in the last two years. In 2023, participation is free.
The deadline for applications is 23 April 2023. Applications are done online through a submission form.
Due to the limited space, we might not be able to accept all applicants. We will carefully review all the applications and give you an answer within 5 working days.
TYPES OF PARTICIPATION
There are two ways to participate: you are present with your own materials at the fair, or you let PhotoIreland represent and sell your publications.
1- PARTICIPANTS PRESENT
In 2023, participation is free and there is no commission on sales. Participants can avail of a free single or shared table. An additional table can be arranged for €200. At least one person must always manage their table and sales. An advantage of being present is that the participants can avail of the programme of events to promote their publications.
2- REPRESENTED PARTICIPANTS
Exhibitors who are unable to travel to Dublin can still participate in the fair by sending their publications and allowing their table to be represented and managed by the PhotoIreland team. The represented participants are responsible for shipping their publications. In 2023, participation is free and there is 35% commission for independent publishers and artists, 50% for established publishers and organisations.
TABLES
There are two types of tables: single or shared. All tables are 200x80cm approximately.
Single tables are those where only one participant is presented. The fair reserves the final decision to allocate these and to move participants to shared tables. All participants can avail of a free single table. An additional table can be arranged for €200. A participant may use up to two tables.
Shared tables are arranged by the fair to allow a number of artists or smaller independent publishers to be presented. Participants can avail of free space within shared tables, according to each need, as defined by the participant at the time of application.
AFTER FAIR SALES
PhotoIreland offers the opportunity to stock all unsold materials after the fair in its Art bookshop, The Library Project. These will be on consignment and at a standard 35% commission. See Tsundoku’s website for full details.
