PhotoIreland has been invited to join the Daegu Photo Biennale‘s Portfolio Reviews 2024 this September, where, out of 214 applicants, the Daegu Photo Biennale team selected 33 artists that will participate in the reviews.
Alongside PhotoIreland’s Director, Ángel Luis González Fernández, the event is bringing together ten other professionals:
– Erik Vroons, Chief editor of GUP Magazine;
– Katy Hundetmark, Editor of Foam Magazine;
– Kimi Himeno, Director of AKAAKA Photo Publishing Company;
– Veronica Shimanovskaya, Founder of Digital Platform EphemerEye;
– Yoshihiro Ikka, Founder of Libro Arte;
– Jean-Christophe Godet, Artistic Director of Guernsey Photography Festival (UK) and Artistic Director, GLAZ Photo Festival (France);
– Hyungwon Kang, Photojournalist and Columnist;
– Jeongmee Yoon, Professor at Hongik University, Photographer at the Graduate School of Industrial Arts (Photography Design Department);
– Minah Lee, Curator at the MMCA (National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art);
– Jung Hoon, Professor at the Keimyung University (Department of Photography and Media).
PhotoIreland always seeks creative ways to maximise any and all opportunities, opening them to artists whenever possible. In this case, PhotoIreland is proposing a productive way to extend the purpose of this visit to Korea in order to promote Irish artists to international audiences and professionals through the presentation of a selection of publications — following the success of Photobook/NZ.
PhotoIreland is calling artists in and from Ireland interested in promoting their practice in Daegu and Seoul, Korea, to reach out and provide a publication that represents their practice.
From all the publications submitted, PhotoIreland will make a selection that will be shared with our international colleagues as much as with artists and local audiences. Our team will identify the most appropriate individuals at the Daegu Photo Biennale‘s Portfolio Reviews 2024 event as much as in the main galleries and museums in Daegu and Seoul, taking the opportunity to comment with them about your practice, and donate your publication. Due to the practicalities of weight limitations, it may not be possible to accept all proposals.
How to Submit your publication
- Send an email to info@photoireland.org including a short bio, detailed information about the publication, information on publisher or if self-published/dummy book, before 6pm Wednesday 28th August.
- Photographic documentation of the book, as well as a selection of spreads (this can be sent as PDF or JPEGS)
- All publications selected must be delivered to The Library Project (4 Temple Bar Street, D03YK53, Dublin) before 6pm Friday 30th August.
