PhotoIreland has been announced as the cultural partner of the Coopers Cross campus in Dublin’s North Docklands. The partnership will see the establishment of the International Centre for the Image at the site, a permanent multi-use cultural hub hosting events, exhibitions and community projects celebrating photography and the visual arts.
The International Centre for the Image will officially open its doors to the public this Summer, with a dedicated 10,000 sq ft space in Building Two of the Coopers Cross campus, a landmark six-acre mixed use development in the heart of the Docklands, jointly developed by Kennedy Wilson and Cain International.
The International Centre for the Image at Coopers Cross will offer an accessible, innovative and creative cultural destination for local and international artists and visitors alike. In addition to a year-round programme of exhibitions and events, the purpose-built space will also host a gallery, library, bookshop, a workshop, and artists’ studios.
The people of North Docklands have a long history in the creative arts and having the International Centre for the Image at Coopers Cross, will give the next generation of visual artists an opportunity to develop their skills and practice in their own locality.
Founded in 2010, PhotoIreland is a leading Irish cultural organisation, funded by the Arts Council, supporting photography and the visual arts, establishing the internationally recognised annual PhotoIreland Festival and operating The Library Project, an art bookshop and cultural hub in Temple Bar.
Speaking about today’s announcement, Peter Collins, Global Sustainability Officer, Kennedy Wilson said, “We are delighted to welcome PhotoIreland to Coopers Cross as our partner and operator of the cultural space at the scheme. PhotoIreland has a long-standing track record of supporting the arts and artists in Ireland and is a perfect fit to bring this new and exciting cultural space to life”.
“Placemaking and activation at the campus have been a key element of our approach throughout the development of Coopers Cross and the International Centre for the Image will play an integral part in creating a destination that is vibrant, diverse and welcoming to all.”
Ángel Luis González, Director of PhotoIreland said, “The International Centre for the Image will consolidate all of our projects under one roof at Coopers Cross and will also open new opportunities for people to engage with the world of photography and the visual arts. Our ambition is to create a cultural destination that attracts leading international and Irish artists, provides workspace to emerging local artists and connects with the community and its rich history”.
