For the month of July, PhotoIreland Festival brings together a programme presenting traditional and contemporary lens-based practices, alongside film and performance, serving a cornucopia of engaging and relevant material — with many works never seen before in Ireland — through exhibitions, talks, and an online critical cooking channel! Don't forget you can always check out the handy What's On Today feature for a day-to-day calendar of events and openings.
Join us for the launch on Friday 2nd July via Zoom to find out more about the programme and meet artist Hertta Kiiski in an interview about her work and new commission Milky Way. Tickets are free via Eventbrite.

Running 1-4 July At Project Arts Centre, Dublin Opening Hours Thu-Sun 11am-5pm Admissions Free, booking required
PhotoIreland Festival invites Finnish artist Hertta Kiiski to present a new body of work called Milky Way to respond to the theme of this year's festival of food and consumption politics. The installation will be launched during opening week at Project Arts Centre, later moving to Rathfarnham Castle to join the main group exhibition Bite the Hand That Feeds you.
Exhibition Guide: Young Milky Way Explorers Irish artist Róisín White was invited to respond to Hertta's work by creating a work that would aid the engagement of younger audiences towards this installation and the themes within. Our younger visitors can pick up this specially created exhibition guide to investigate and navigate the artwork. These guides will encourage young people (and their families) to take a closer look at the exhibition, to consider the materials used, the themes and questions the work poses, and suggest ways that you can make your own artistic response when you get home.

The photographer Mathieu Asselin explores the controversial and infamous agricultural company, Monsanto, through investigative photography in this acclaimed project. Looking at the company’s past and present, this investigation aims to picture what Monsanto’s® near future will look like. The exhibition for the festival focuses on the process of the photobook. Beyond the distinguished editorial object, this publication enshrines an exceptional documentary process conducted for five years through Vietnam and the United States, which portrays an overwhelming portrait of the ancient and current practices of this giant chemical industry.

For this year's PhotoIreland Festival, we present an online cooking channel, one that inspires ideas, conversations, philosophical and historical considerations, and food for thought. Critical Recipes presents a programme of performances, taking the model of a cooking show as an inspiration and departure point to put forward critical discussions. Grab a seat and enjoy a menu proposed by six artists through six episodes.
We begin with a reflection on hospitality and hosting from Jennie Moran in collaboration with performance artist Aoibhinn O’Dea. The performance titled 'Enter quickly, for I am afraid of my happiness' will be available on the Critical Recipes channel from 10am Saturday 3rd July.
