Photoireland Festival’s Audience

Ireland enjoys healthy numbers of Arts attendance. Particularly, attendance to Art Galleries and Exhibitions is still one of the most popular forms. PhotoIreland capitalises on these numbers and focuses on increasing the interest in Photography, and strengthening the existing network of collaborators. Incidentally, the Arts Attendance in Ireland report prepared by Arts Audiences offers clear advice:

“[…] the Arts has an opportunity to convert those who attend infrequently (i.e. less often than once a year) into more frequent attenders.” (Page 8)

We have the opportunity to tap into that over a million visitors to Art exhibitions and galleries stated in the report.

During the 2010 festival, we received an estimated 45,000 visitors to our 84 events – exhibitions, talks, workshops, projections, and films. We worked together with over 60 organisations and collaborators to make these events happen. All the collaborating galleries experienced an increase in visitor numbers compared to the same dates in previous years.

We will continue working with galleries, public and private organisations, and individuals, to deliver the events to the marketplace with shared resources. They, in turn, will help making the events widely known in their own networks –not necessarily photography focused-, spreading an awareness of the festival and raising prospective audiences.

While the festival base is Dublin, we are focusing on a nationwide expansion, organising events around the country as the event grows. In the coming years, during the festival we will focus each weekend on a different location, generating a trail of events around the country.
